Position Summary

This newly-created position will provide engineering support to the Firestone Building Products Company Muscle Shoals, AL manufacturing facility. The position will be located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.  The position will focus on one of our Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) plants, and will drive standardization and process improvements utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while continuously improving process efficiencies, yields, production rates, changeovers and costs
  • Reduce process variation through standardize work methods and enhancement of teammate capabilities
  • Employ Six Sigma methodology and tools to analyze sources of process variability, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Utilize the QC Database and Data Historian tools to identify data-driven improvements
  • Improve process capability (Cpk) and production output while maintaining and improving quality standards
  • Evaluate opportunities to implement error-proofing techniques in order to increase first pass yield, improve process consistency, and reduce downtime
  • Lead efforts to identify and develop solutions to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
  • Communicate and propagate improvements and best practices across the network of plants
  • Develop intentional action plans to achieve improvement objectives
  • Ensure improvement plans are completed on time and measure attained results against the project objectives
  • Promote and support the application of the Management of Change (MOC) and Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) standards


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineer, Chemical Engineering desired
  • Minimum of 2 years, 5 years desired, of process engineering experience evaluating existing systems and implementing process improvements in a plant environment
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma training and application experience in manufacturing


Desired Qualifications

  • Six Sigma Black Belt and/or Lean Expert Certification
  • Continuous improvement leadership experience in one of the process industries (building materials, chemicals, consumer goods, etc.)
  • Experience managing productivity/ cost savings programs and delivering on savings targets
  • Expert with Minitab, SAP, and data historian systems
  • Strong collaboration, influence, and change management skills
